Getting organised to study

Staying organised!

  • Keep a planner or school diary to write down your homework and important dates and events throughout the year
  • Write down your homework as soon as you get it in class
  • Block out when to study for each subject in your planner
  • Plan your study sessions around your extracurricular activities and personal responsibilities
  • Create to-do-lists to help you keep track of your work

Tips taken from 'The High School Survival Guide' by Jessica Holsman.

How to study

Studying!

  • Study during your peak energy periods of the day to maximise your productivity
  • Study for 25-30 minutes at a time
  • Take a 5-10 minute study break between sessions to help you stay focused and avoid feeling tired or restless
  • Use a priority matrix to help focus your attention on important tasks
  • Use the final 5-10 minutes of your study sessions to wind up and make a list of anything you still need to complete

Tips taken from 'The High School Survival Guide' by Jessica Holsman.

How to stay positive and deal with disappointment

Dealing with disappointment!

  • Aim for excellence, not perfection
  • Read over your teacher's feedback carefully - what you did wrong as well as what you did right
  • Avoid catastrophic thinking
  • Remember that your skills are dynamic and you can improve in them
  • Try taking a different approach to your studies and use other methods to help you understand the topic
